InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort Completes Transformation
InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort Introduces New Guest Experiences
InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort has unveiled the final phase of its redevelopment, introducing new accommodation, dining, wellness and event facilities along Chennai’s coastline.
The refreshed resort now features an ocean-facing ballroom, expanded beach lawns, additional restaurants and bars, upgraded suites with plunge pools, a sports pavilion, walking trails and a meditation garden. The developments form part of the property’s ongoing efforts to enhance its guest offering while strengthening its position as a destination for leisure, events and business travel.
Located along the East Coast Road near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram, the 110-room resort has been redesigned to reflect both its coastal setting and local cultural influences. Guestrooms and suites offer views of the Bay of Bengal, landscaped gardens and pool areas, while selected suites include private pools, steam rooms and outdoor plunge pools.

Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the reopening marks an important milestone for the company’s luxury portfolio in India and reflects growing demand for destination-led hospitality experiences.
The resort’s event facilities include the Vaibhava Ballroom, a sea-facing venue spanning more than 12,000 square feet, alongside the Vaibhava and Beach Lawns. Together, the indoor and outdoor spaces can accommodate large-scale weddings, corporate functions and social gatherings.
Dining options have also been expanded. The Melting Pot offers Indian, Western and Pan-Asian cuisine, while KoKoMMo Tiki Shack provides a beachfront dining experience. Tao of Peng focuses on Hunan and Cantonese dishes, while Viora Sky Lounge and The Gatsby Lounge offer rooftop and social spaces for guests.
Wellness facilities include Amrtam Spa, a fitness centre, meditation gardens, walking trails and outdoor recreation areas. Guests can also access a pickleball court, sports pavilion and wellness-focused activities such as beachside yoga and meditation sessions.

Anand Nair, General Manager of InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort, said the redevelopment has focused on creating a destination that combines South Indian culture, contemporary hospitality and personalised guest experiences.
Situated approximately one hour from Chennai International Airport, the resort provides access to Mahabalipuram’s historic monuments, coastal attractions and cultural landmarks while serving as a base for leisure and business travellers alike.
