Emirates Expands Support for Young Solo Travellers

Emirates is preparing to welcome more than 3,500 children travelling independently over the next two weeks as the summer holiday season begins ahead of the new school year in Dubai.

The airline expects one of the busiest periods for its Unaccompanied Minors Service, which provides dedicated assistance to children travelling without their parents or guardians. Over the past five years, more than 250,000 young passengers have travelled using Emirates’ Unaccompanied Minors and Young Passenger services.

Most children using the service are aged 11 or under, with popular routes connecting Dubai to the United Kingdom, Russia, Kenya, France, India, and Egypt.

Children aged 5 to 12 travelling alone are required to use the Unaccompanied Minors Service, which can be booked up to 24 hours before departure through Emirates’ customer service channels. Young travellers aged 12 to 15 may travel independently or choose the optional Young Passenger Service for additional assistance.

At Dubai International Airport, young travellers are welcomed into a dedicated Unaccompanied Minors Lounge, where they can enjoy refreshments, complimentary Wi-Fi, gaming facilities and supervised waiting areas before boarding.

Throughout the journey, trained Emirates specialists accompany children through check-in, security, immigration and boarding before handing them over to the cabin crew. During the flight, cabin crew provide regular assistance, help with meals and entertainment, and ensure children are comfortable throughout their journey.

On arrival, Emirates staff escort young passengers through the airport until they are safely reunited with their designated parent or guardian, following identity verification procedures.

For connecting passengers travelling through Dubai, Emirates also provides supervised support during transit, with access to the Unaccompanied Minors Lounge while waiting for onward flights, subject to the airline’s connection policies.

The service is designed to provide families with added reassurance while ensuring young travellers enjoy a safe and well-supported journey from departure to arrival.
