Air Kerala, the newest airline based in Kerala, has announced plans to commence operations by June next year. Reports indicate that its inaugural flight will depart from Kannur International Airport.

While the specific maiden destination has not yet been disclosed, the airline has already made key appointments, including a CEO and CFO, and has established a strategic partnership with Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) to launch flight services on regional routes.

Sources indicate that Air Kerala will begin operating several flights from Kannur as part of its collaboration with KIAL, focusing on domestic destinations within a 90-minute radius. This initiative aims to enhance regional connections and provide customers with convenient and hassle-free travel options.

Air Kerala Chairman Afi Ahmed emphasized the significance of Kannur Airport in the airline's operational strategy and expressed gratitude to the airport's administration for their unwavering support. He stated, "The infrastructure at Kannur Airport is ready, and they have extended all the necessary support to establish our base. Kannur International Airport will play a significant role in our strategy."

Air Kerala's fleet will initially include regional twin-engine turboprop ATR aircraft, which are designed for shorter routes. As the airline expands, it plans to transition to narrow-body jets to enhance its network and capabilities. The airline's long-term goal is to offer international flights from Kannur to various destinations around the world. Its domestic network will serve as a gateway, connecting regional passengers to international flights via Kannur and establishing the airport as a key hub for international travel.

Air Kerala received a no-objection certificate from the Civil Aviation Ministry in July and is now applying for a flying permit from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Once this clearance is obtained, the airline will be able to begin commercial operations. This development aims to address regional air connectivity needs while offering travellers affordable, reliable, and efficient flight options.

Air Kerala aims to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers by facilitating both domestic and international connections through Kannur International Airport. The airline is committed to enhancing connectivity and delivering quality service, positioning itself as a significant player in the aviation sector with plans to transform the planning travel landscape.
