Air India Signs MRO Partnership with SIA Engineering Company
Air India MRO Collaboration Supports India’s Aviation Growth
Air India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) to explore collaboration in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services, supporting the development of India’s aviation maintenance sector.
The MoU was signed in Mumbai on 3 July 2026 by Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson and SIAEC Chief Executive Officer Chin Yau Seng.
The agreement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies. In February 2024, Air India signed a 12-year Inventory Technical Management (ITM) agreement with SIAEC to provide component support for its Airbus A320 family fleet. This was followed in May 2024 by the appointment of SIAEC as Air India’s strategic partner for developing base maintenance facilities in Bengaluru.
The latest agreement aims to strengthen cooperation by combining SIAEC’s technical expertise with Air India’s expanding operations to support the development of MRO capabilities in India. The collaboration may also include establishing a joint venture to meet the growing maintenance needs of the Indian and regional aviation markets.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, said India’s expanding aviation sector requires stronger domestic maintenance capabilities to support larger fleets and increasing operations. He added that partnerships such as this can help develop a more resilient MRO ecosystem and support India’s ambitions to become a global aviation hub.
Chin Yau Seng, Chief Executive Officer of SIA Engineering Company, said India continues to be an important aviation market and strengthening its MRO capabilities will help enhance its position within the global aerospace industry. He added that SIAEC looks forward to exploring opportunities to support the development of technical expertise and maintenance capacity in India through its collaboration with Air India.
The MoU is currently non-binding, with both companies expected to evaluate and develop future collaboration opportunities as discussions progress.
