Suvarnabhumi Airport Enhances Passenger Services and Immigration Process

Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and other government agencies, has announced a series of measures to improve passenger services at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The initiatives focus on easing congestion, improving passenger flow and strengthening coordination across airport and immigration services as international visitor numbers continue to grow.

Improving Airport Operations

A strategic review was carried out on 16 July, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Transport, TAT, the Department of Tourism, the Tourist Police Bureau, the Immigration Bureau and Airports of Thailand.

The agencies agreed to strengthen the sharing of real-time flight schedules and passenger data to help manage staffing levels more effectively during busy travel periods.

The review also covered measures to improve queue management, create temporary waiting areas where required and make passenger movement through immigration more efficient.

Expanding Immigration Technology

Thailand will continue expanding the use of biometric identity verification and automated passport-control channels at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

At present, the automated immigration system is available to eligible passport holders from Singapore and Hong Kong.

The second phase of the programme is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with authorities also considering extending eligibility to travellers from additional low-risk markets. The expansion is expected to reduce congestion in immigration areas by more than 50 per cent.

Executive Comments

Surasak Phancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, said:

“Our priority is to ensure Suvarnabhumi Airport provides an efficient gateway for international travellers. Strengthening coordination and improving passenger processes will help manage increasing traffic while supporting Thailand’s tourism sector.”

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said:

“TAT is working to improve every stage of the visitor journey, from travel planning to arrival, on-ground support and departure. This coordinated approach aims to improve service quality and provide a smoother travel experience.”

The latest measures form part of Thailand’s ongoing efforts to improve airport operations and enhance the overall visitor experience at one of the country’s busiest international gateways.
