AAHK Signs Agreements with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Aviation Partners
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding with aviation partners in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to strengthen air connectivity between Hong Kong and Central Asia.
The agreements were signed during a Central Asia visit by a delegation led by John Lee and are aimed at expanding passenger and cargo connectivity, supporting aviation development and enhancing cooperation across the region.
The partnerships further support the growth of Hong Kong International Airport as an international aviation hub.
AAHK Partners with Almaty International Airport
The first agreement was signed between AAHK and Almaty International Airport.
The memorandum was exchanged by Fred Lam and Goker Kose.
The partnership focuses on several areas including:
- Air connectivity development
- Airport management cooperation
- Sustainable development initiatives
- Talent development programmes
Almaty International Airport serves as a major aviation gateway in Central Asia and plays an important role in regional connectivity.
Direct Hong Kong-Almaty Flights Launch Next Year
A major outcome of the agreement is the introduction of direct passenger flights between Hong Kong and Almaty.
Cathay Pacific will launch a three-times-weekly service between the two cities during the first quarter of next year.
The new route is expected to strengthen travel, trade and business links between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
Uzbekistan Partnership Expands Passenger and Cargo Links
AAHK also signed an agreement with Fly Khiva Group.
The memorandum was exchanged by Vivian Cheung and Dilshod Hodjaev.
The cooperation will focus on:
- Passenger connectivity
- Cargo network development
- Operational excellence
- Service improvements
- Sustainable development
- Talent development
Fly Khiva Group has been operating cargo services between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan since 2024.
New Visa-Free Arrangement Supports Travel Growth
The governments of Hong Kong and Uzbekistan have also confirmed a mutual visa-free arrangement.
Under the agreement, passport holders from both locations will be able to visit each other for up to 30 days without a visa.
In addition, the two sides have completed the initialing of an Air Services Agreement, creating a framework for airlines to operate flights between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan.
Central Asia Becomes Strategic Growth Market
Fred Lam said Central Asia represents an important growth market within Hong Kong International Airport’s aviation expansion strategy.
He noted that the new partnerships create opportunities to strengthen passenger traffic, cargo movements and business connections between Hong Kong and Central Asia.
According to AAHK, the agreements support ongoing efforts to expand the airport’s international network and reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a leading global aviation hub.
