IHCL Marks World Environment Day with Sustainability Initiatives
IHCL Sustainability Strategy Advances Through Paathya Framework
Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has reaffirmed its focus on responsible hospitality through its ESG+ framework, Paathya, on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The framework brings together the company’s initiatives across renewable energy, water conservation, waste management, circular operations, green mobility and sustainability certification standards.

Gaurav Pokhariyal, Executive Vice President – Human Resources, IHCL, said sustainability is becoming an increasingly important part of hospitality operations as businesses focus on resource efficiency and respond to evolving traveller expectations. He noted that Paathya combines operational sustainability measures with initiatives that support local communities and ecosystems.
IHCL reported that 41 per cent of its electricity consumption is currently sourced from renewable energy. The company has also installed 386 electric vehicle charging stations across 171 locations, operates 108 organic waste composting plants and runs 85 water bottling plants aimed at reducing dependence on single-use plastic. In addition, 54 per cent of wastewater generated across its hotels is recycled.
The company’s environmental efforts extend beyond hotel operations through projects focused on watershed restoration, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and the revival of traditional water bodies. These initiatives are being implemented across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Over a three-year period, IHCL aims to support the recharge and conservation of 50 lakh cubic metres of water while contributing to local livelihoods and environmental resilience in the regions where it operates.
As part of its sustainability roadmap under Paathya, IHCL has outlined several targets to be achieved by 2030. These include sourcing 50 per cent of energy requirements from renewable resources, eliminating single-use plastics across all hotels, ensuring the complete reuse of wastewater, and obtaining global sustainability certification for all properties in its portfolio.
The company said these initiatives form part of its long-term approach to integrating environmental responsibility into hospitality operations.
