flydubai Signs Deal for 150 Airbus A321neo Aircraft

flydubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the purchase of 150 A321neo aircraft, marking flydubai’s entry as a new Airbus customer. The agreement reflects the airline’s fleet planning strategy, aligned with Dubai’s long-term growth plans.

The MoU was signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, and Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, during a signing ceremony held on the second day of the Dubai Airshow 2025. The ceremony was attended by Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of flydubai.

Commenting on the agreement, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said the order represents an important step in flydubai’s development and aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as well as the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. He added that the agreement supports fleet diversification and the airline’s long-term expansion plans, including its role in the development of Dubai World Central.

The introduction of the A321neo aircraft will support flydubai’s network expansion strategy, enabling the airline to serve additional destinations while improving operational efficiency and customer onboard comfort. The aircraft are expected to help meet growing demand across the carrier’s existing and future markets.

Christian Scherer said the agreement marks the start of a new partnership between Airbus and flydubai, noting that the A321neo will support the airline’s future network expansion through its range and efficiency.

The Airbus A320neo Family, which includes the A321neo, incorporates new-generation engines, Sharklets, and cabin-efficiency enhancements. These technologies deliver approximately 20% fuel savings and reduced CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation single-aisle aircraft.

As of the end of October 2025, more than 7,200 A321neo aircraft had been ordered by close to 100 customers worldwide. All Airbus A320 Family aircraft are currently certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030.
