Marriott Finalizes citizenM Acquisition, Expands Lifestyle Hotel Portfolio

Marriott International has finalized its acquisition of the lifestyle hotel brand citizenM. The move supports Marriott’s strategy to expand its global select-service offerings and add more options for travellers and Marriott Bonvoy members across key international destinations.
citizenM’s current portfolio includes 37 operational hotels, totalling 8,789 rooms in over 20 cities across the U.S., Europe, and Asia Pacific. An additional two hotels, with more than 300 rooms combined, are in the development pipeline and are expected to join Marriott’s network.

“As travellers look for hospitality that blends technology and a guest-centric approach, citizenM aligns well with our broader strategy,” said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International.
“We’ve seen solid momentum in our select-service lifestyle segment, including brands like AC, Moxy, and Aloft, and this acquisition offers new opportunities to grow citizenM’s footprint.”
Now that the acquisition is complete, Marriott will begin integrating citizenM properties into its platforms. Until that process is complete, expected later this year, citizenM hotels will continue to be available through their existing digital channels. Members of citizenM’s subscription program will retain their benefits, with additional updates to follow post-integration. Once the integration is finished, citizenM will be included in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program.

Founded in 2008, citizenM has built a following by combining digital convenience with compact, design-forward spaces. The brand targets travellers who value efficiency, connectivity, and flexible social spaces—featuring innovative in-room technology, art-filled lounges, modular meeting rooms, grab-and-go food options, and rooftop terraces in select locations.
