IHG to Open First Kimpton Hotel in Indonesia

IHG Brings Kimpton Brand to Bali Ubud

IHG Hotels & Resorts has revealed the first details of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, which is scheduled to open later this year as the first Kimpton hotel in Indonesia.

Situated on Jalan Bisma in Ubud, the IHG hotel is conveniently close to attractions like the Ubud Art Market, Ubud Palace, and the Water Palace. The hotel’s design celebrates Bali’s cultural heritage while embracing Kimpton’s lifestyle hospitality philosophy, emphasizing personalized service and modern interiors.

Guests will have access to Kimpton’s signature brand experiences, including the “Forgot It, We’ve Got It!” programme for travel essentials, Kimpton Kickstart with complimentary morning coffee, tea and pastries, and Kimpton Social, an evening gathering for guests.

The hotel will be led by Austin Jones, General Manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, who has worked across several Kimpton properties before taking on the brand’s debut in Indonesia.

Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will feature 101 guest rooms and villas, including standard rooms, pool suites and private pool villas.

Its food and beverage offering will include five dining venues, led by Imamura Ubud, an omakase restaurant headed by Michelin-starred Chef Hirofumi Imamura. The culinary programme will also include Shaku by Imamura, serving Japanese izakaya-style cuisine.

The property will include wellness facilities such as a two-storey fitness studio, recovery and contrast-therapy spaces, and Sakshi Spa, which offers treatments inspired by Balinese wellness traditions.

The name Suntaya is derived from Sanskrit, combining words associated with stillness and vitality. Set alongside the Wos River, the hotel’s design reflects the surrounding landscape and Balinese cultural traditions.

Designed by Denton Corker Marshall, the architecture follows the natural contours of Ubud’s hillside terrain and incorporates elements inspired by Balinese ceremonial processions.

Founded in 1981 by Bill Kimpton in San Francisco, the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand entered Asia with Kimpton Da An Taipei and has since expanded across the region with properties in Bangkok, Samui, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will mark the brand’s entry into the Indonesian market.
