SFO Achieves Premier Human Resources Award and Level 3 Accreditation

SFO Recognised for Workforce Development and Human Resources Excellence

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has received the Overall Human Resources Program Award at the 2026 Excellence in Human Resources Recognition Awards presented by Airports Council International – North America.

SFO also earned Level 3 Accreditation for Airport Workforce Development, building on its achievement as one of the first five airports in the United States to receive the accreditation in 2025.

Recognition for Workforce Development

ACI-NA recognised SFO for its commitment to workforce development, employee retention and talent management. The awards highlight the airport’s efforts to build a strong workforce through programmes focused on professional development, succession planning and organisational growth.

ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke praised SFO’s investment in talent development and its contribution to shaping the future workforce of the aviation industry.

Human Resources Strategy Supports Airport Growth

The Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet said the airport’s human resources programmes support its mission of delivering an airport experience that prioritises people and sustainability.

He noted that initiatives covering employee development, change management, wellness, equity and inclusion have strengthened the airport’s workforce and contributed to the recognition.

Strong Hiring and Employee Retention

During the past year, the airport’s People, Performance and Development (PPD) team achieved a 95% employee retention rate while recruiting more than 350 new employees.

The airport also reorganised its human resources functions into a unified structure to better align workforce planning, employee development and organisational objectives.
