Noida Airport Takes Off in April 2025

Commencing commercial operations on April 17, 2025, Noida International Airport, also called Jewar Airport, will offer about 30 scheduled flights for both domestic and international routes. In the first phase, there will be three flights to overseas locations and 25 flights connecting major local cities. Two flights will also provide cargo services. Once finished, Jewar Airport will significantly increase air travel capacity in India’s National Capital Region (NCR), making it the largest airport in Asia and the fourth largest globally.

Plans for Domestic and International Routes

Early discussions suggest that the first international flights from Noida airport will be bound for Singapore, Dubai, and Zurich, with Zurich being notable as the headquarters of the airport’s concessionaire. Domestically, the airport will connect to major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Dehradun, and Hubli. Consultations are underway between the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and airline partners IndiGo and Akasa Air regarding the launch of domestic routes.

Expansion Plans for Future Phases

The airport’s development has four stages. The first phase’s main objectives are establishing a 101,590 square-meter passenger terminal building, a 3.9-kilometre runway, and the required support infrastructure. With a projected investment of about $730.5 million, this first phase, which spans 1,334 hectares in Jewar, is anticipated to handle 100,000 flights and accommodate up to 12 million passengers annually. Commercial operations are expected to start by April 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone in November 2021.

After all phases are finished, the airport will have six runways, enabling it to accommodate up to 70 million passengers and 489,700 aircraft movements annually. The addition of a second passenger terminal and cutting-edge cargo facilities will strengthen the airport’s status as a significant air freight gateway for northern India.
