Minor Hotels Expands ‘Dollars for Deeds’ to Support Children with Disabilities in Sri Lanka

Minor Hotels remains committed to supporting the communities it serves. Its global ‘Dollars for Deeds’ initiative links hospitality with community support.

The program, first introduced nearly a decade ago at Anantara properties in Thailand, allows guests to contribute one US dollar per night at check-in, with Minor Hotels matching each donation. The funds are directed toward charitable and environmental projects tailored to each location. Examples include coral conservation in the Maldives and child welfare initiatives in Hungary. In Sri Lanka, previous support has benefited the Turtle Hatchery near Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle and the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala, facilitated by Anantara Kalutara and Avani Kalutara.

Minor Hotels Sri Lanka has partnered with Ayati Trust, a national center dedicated to supporting children with disabilities. Established in 2016 and operational since 2020, the Ayati National Centre for Children with Disabilities offers diagnostic, therapeutic, and educational services to children and families throughout the country. The center was created through collaboration between the University of Kelaniya, Hemas Holdings, MAS Holdings, the Roshan Wijerama Family Foundation, Rotary International, and other partners.

The center provides a variety of services, including early intervention programs, occupational and speech therapy, as well as prosthetics and orthotics. Additionally, it offers supported education services, family counseling, and training for healthcare and education professionals. The center also provides transport allowances, meal support, and initiatives for parent advocacy. To ensure long-term sustainability, it focuses on skills training and supported employment for young people. Since its opening, over 14,000 children have registered, with an average daily attendance of 60.

Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International, said, “Ayati represents the kind of lasting community impact we aim to support through ‘Dollars for Deeds’. This partnership reflects our commitment to enabling better outcomes for children across Sri Lanka.”

Abbas Esufally, Deputy Chairman of Ayati Trust, added, “Partnering with Minor Hotels will help us expand our reach, strengthen services, and continue providing families with access to care and support.”

This partnership embodies Minor Hotels’ commitment to sustainable growth, ensuring that properties enhance the welfare of their local communities while accommodating guests.
