Hong Kong Airlines’ 2025 Plan Revealed

Hong Kong Airlines anticipates surpassing five million passengers in 2024 when it fully returns to pre-pandemic flight levels with an 85 percent passenger load factor.

Hong Kong Airlines will restart direct service to the Gold Coast on January 17, 2025, running four times per week as part of its long-haul development. This will improve the connectivity between Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and Australia’s Gold Coast. In addition, on January 18, 2025, the airline will resume its Vancouver route, running twice weekly, marking its official comeback to the international long-haul market.

Bookings for the Christmas and Lunar New Year holidays are high, with ski resort routes in Northeast Asia reaching 90 percent occupancy. To fulfil demand, the airline will expand flight frequencies in December, open the Sendai route, and add flights to Seoul (twice daily) and Tokyo (five times daily), with Sapporo becoming a daily trip.

Hong Kong Airlines increased its fleet in 2024 to complement its expansion, adding several Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft for medium- to long-haul flights. The airline has also introduced its first A321, equipped with 220 all-economy seats to increase capacity and operating efficiency. By the end of the year, the fleet is scheduled to reach roughly 30 aircraft, with additional expansion planned to increase capacity. Additionally, the airline will continue to strengthen its codeshare network through partnerships.

Other airline improvements include increased recruitment, optimization of aircraft cabins and airport lounge services, and an improved in-flight dining experience for business class passengers through cooperation with Michelin-starred restaurants. In-flight entertainment systems are also being restored on many A330s, with full operation projected by 2025.

In 2023, Hong Kong Airlines reopened its VIP lounge, Club Autus, on the midfield concourse at Hong Kong International Airport. The lounge provides amenities such as massage chairs and traditional Hong Kong cuisine.
