AirAsia Cancels Flights Due to Volcanic Eruption

The ongoing eruption of Mount Lewotobi, situated in East Flores within Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, has formed large volcanic ash clouds that are anticipated to interfere with air traffic in the surrounding region. These ash clouds present significant safety risks for aircraft operating in proximity to the affected areas, creating dangerous conditions for flights.

Consequently, several flights operated by AirAsia Malaysia (AK), AirAsia Thailand (FD), AirAsia Indonesia (QZ), and AirAsia X Malaysia (D7) to and from popular destinations, including Bali, Lombok, and Labuan Bajo, have been cancelled or rescheduled since November 4, 2024. The disruptions have been a direct response to the potential hazards posed by the volcanic activity and the ash clouds that it generates.

To keep their passengers informed, AirAsia has proactively contacted all affected travellers through email and SMS notifications, providing up-to-date information regarding their flight status and the available options for rescheduling or refunds. The airline is committed to assisting passengers in navigating these travel disruptions and ensuring they can continue their journeys safely on the next available flights.

Given the unpredictable nature of the volcanic activity and the impact of the ash clouds, AirAsia strongly urges all travellers planning to fly to or from these affected destinations to regularly check their flight status. Passengers can easily access flight updates by visiting airasia.com/flightstatus.

In addition, AirAsia is closely monitoring the volcanic activity at Mount Lewotobi and is prepared to issue timely updates regarding its travel advisory as conditions evolve and normal operations are restored. The safety and well-being of passengers remain the airline’s top priority during this challenging situation.
