Growth at Air India Express Despite Boeing Setbacks 

Air India Express plans to expand its fleet to 110 aircraft by March 31, 2025, according to CEO Alok Singh. All the aircraft will be A320-200s provided by Air India. Both carriers are owned by the Tata Sons conglomerate.

“As part of our fleet expansion, we will receive planes from Air India as there has been a slowdown in the deliveries of our Boeing aircraft,” he said.

Air India has already delivered the first two A320 aircraft to its sister operator, Air India Express. The Air India Express fleet consists of 91 aircraft, which includes twenty-five A320-200s, five A320-200Ns, thirty-five B737-8s, and twenty-six B737-800s. Additionally, the airline has placed orders for 105 B737-8s and fifty B737-10s.

Recent industrial action at the aircraft manufacturer has caused delays in the already-slow deliveries of B737 MAX to customers. Although Singh did not specify when deliveries from Boeing will resume, he mentioned that the aircraft supplied by Air India would ensure that the expansion plans for its fleet and network would not be affected.

Air India Express aims to increase its passenger traffic by over 50% in the coming years by expanding its network of routes and destinations, as well as significantly growing its fleet. The airline plans to operate flights to 55 destinations by the end of March 2025, an increase from the current 48. Along with adding new domestic routes, Air India Express will also begin service to additional international airports.
