Philippine Airlines Expands A350-1000 Fleet for Long-Haul Routes

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for nine additional A350-1000 aircraft. The agreement was announced at the Farnborough Air Show by Lucio C. Tan III, President and Chief Operating Officer of PAL Holdings, Inc., Richard Nuttall, President of Philippine Airlines, Lars Wagner, CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business at Airbus, and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales of the Airbus Commercial Aircraft business.

Once finalized, the agreement will increase Philippine Airlines’ total A350-1000 orders to 18 aircraft. The airline has already taken delivery of the first two aircraft this year.

The additional aircraft will support the expansion of the airline’s long-haul network, particularly services between Manila and destinations in North America, including non-stop flights to cities on the east coast of the United States and Canada.

Philippine Airlines has selected a three-class cabin layout for its A350-1000 fleet, accommodating 382 passengers. The configuration includes 42 Business Class suites, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 316 Economy Class seats, with in-flight entertainment and connectivity available across all cabins.

Commenting on the order, Lucio C. Tan III said:

“The A350-1000 will continue to support our international operations for many years. As the first airline in Southeast Asia to operate the Airbus A350-1000, we have seen how the aircraft supports our services across North America while offering passengers a comfortable travel experience.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales of the Airbus Commercial Aircraft business, added:

“This agreement marks another step in our partnership with Philippine Airlines. The A350-1000 will support the airline’s long-haul network expansion and future growth, particularly on transpacific routes. We look forward to finalising the order.”

Philippine Airlines currently operates several Airbus aircraft across its network, including the A330-300 on services to the Middle East, Australia and destinations across Asia, alongside A320 and A321 aircraft on domestic and regional routes.

At the end of June 2026, the Airbus A350 Family had secured 1,595 firm orders from 68 customers worldwide.
