Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded strong growth across passenger, cargo and flight operations during the 2025/26 financial year, supported by the phased opening of the expanded Terminal 2 and continued investment in aviation infrastructure.

According to the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) Annual Report 2025/26, Hong Kong International Airport handled 63 million passengers, a 14.7% year-on-year increase, while aircraft movements grew 7.1% to 399,450. Cargo throughput also increased 2.7% to 5.1 million tonnes, allowing HKIA to retain its position as the world’s busiest cargo airport for the 15th time since 2010.

Hong Kong International Airport Expands Passenger Services

Hong Kong International Airport reached another major milestone with the phased opening of the expanded Terminal 2. The Coach Hall began operations in September 2025, providing cross-boundary coach and limousine services, while the terminal’s new departure facilities opened in May 2026.

The airport also strengthened connectivity by adding 26 new destinations, mainly across Belt and Road markets. By the end of the financial year, around 140 airlines were operating at Hong Kong International Airport, connecting Hong Kong with more than 220 destinations worldwide.

Hong Kong International Airport Enhances Greater Bay Area Connectivity

AAHK continued expanding intermodal transport services to improve access for passengers travelling from the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The City Terminal network grew to 38 locations during the financial year and has since expanded to 41 locations.

The airport also introduced its Park & Fly service, allowing eligible passengers from Guangdong and Macao to drive to the automated parking facility at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge before flying from Hong Kong International Airport.

Passengers also benefited from new transfer experiences, including complimentary Hong Kong city tours for long layovers and cultural workshops featuring Hong Kong-themed souvenirs.

Cargo Operations and SKYTOPIA Development Continue to Advance

To strengthen cargo operations, Hong Kong International Airport continued expanding the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park, where export cargo from the Greater Bay Area is processed before being shipped directly to HKIA’s airside facilities. Cargo volume and cargo value through the logistics park both increased by more than 90% year on year.

AAHK also continued developing SKYTOPIA, with construction progressing on a 20,000-seat performance arena, the Airportcity Link autonomous transport system, the Yacht Bay project, and the Airport Tung Chung Link, all aimed at supporting the airport’s long-term growth strategy.
