Emirates Supports Championing Nature Initiative in London

Emirates and The All England Lawn Tennis Club have supported the opening of a new natural play area at Woodberry Wetlands in partnership with London Wildlife Trust.

The site is the first permanent location to open under the Championing Nature programme, a long-term initiative being delivered by four Wildlife Trusts across England.

The programme brings together the London Wildlife Trust, Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust, the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, and Northumberland Wildlife Trust to support projects that help children, young people, and families connect with nature in urban communities.

Over six years, the initiative will provide investment and support across the four locations to improve access to outdoor spaces and environmental learning opportunities.

According to the organizations involved, the programme has already engaged more than 20,000 people and delivered over 750 Championing Nature activity sessions.

The new play area at Woodberry Wetlands was officially opened by naturalist and television presenter Steve Backshall, alongside children from Holmleigh Primary School, during an outdoor learning session.

The play area has been designed to encourage interaction with wildlife and green spaces through outdoor activities and educational experiences.

Jabr Al-Azeeby, Divisional Vice President, Emirates UK, said the project reflects the airline’s broader Force for Good programme, which supports community initiatives through Emirates’ global sponsorship partnerships.

Championing Nature is part of Emirates’ wider sustainability and community engagement efforts, which support local projects and increase access to nature-based activities.
