Top Five Winter Travel Destinations for Indians – December 2025

ACKO has released its latest travel insights report identifying the top five international destinations preferred by Indian travellers during the winter season, based on an analysis of travel insurance policies issued recently.

The findings indicate a strong preference for destinations offering easier visa access, shorter travel durations, and a wide range of experiences. Southeast Asia continues to feature prominently, while Europe is seeing steady interest for winter-specific travel experiences. The report also highlights family travel as the fastest-growing segment, with young professionals and students contributing to demand for select short-haul destinations.

Thailand

Thailand remains the most visited international destination for Indian travellers this winter. Factors such as visa-friendly entry, proximity, affordability, and broad appeal across age groups continue to support its position. The destination sees strong participation from young professionals, families, and working adults.

Germany

Germany ranks second, driven by demand from families, working professionals, and a comparatively higher share of senior travellers. Seasonal attractions such as Christmas markets and winter festivities continue to influence travel decisions.

Vietnam

Vietnam has emerged as a fast-growing winter destination, supported by budget-friendly travel options, simplified visa processes, and rising interest from young professionals and students. The destination attracts travellers across a wide age range.

France

France continues to feature among the preferred winter destinations for Indian travellers seeking cultural experiences, art, and seasonal celebrations. Demand is largely driven by families and working professionals.

Italy

Italy completes the top five, drawing interest from travellers interested in history, cuisine, and winter street experiences. Family groups and couples form a significant share of visitors.

Who is travelling this winter

The report notes that families and working adults aged between 30 and 49 account for the largest share of winter travel, particularly for multi-person trips. Young professionals aged 20 to 29 show a stronger inclination towards short-haul destinations such as Thailand and Vietnam. Students below the age of 20 are most active in destinations including the UAE and Vietnam. Senior travellers aged above 50 form a relatively higher share

Commenting on the findings, an ACKO spokesperson said: “Winter travel this year highlights a clear preference for ease, comfort, and meaningful experiences. We are seeing a noticeable rise in family holidays, along with greater confidence among young professionals and students to travel overseas. As travel patterns become more frequent and varied, the need for reliable travel protection is naturally becoming part of the planning process. At ACKO, we aim to enable this evolving travel mindset with fast, digital-first insurance solutions that help travellers enjoy every journey with peace of mind.”
