Slovenia Highlights Winter Sports, Nordic Trails and Outdoor Experiences

As winter begins, the Slovenian Tourist Board is promoting a wide-ranging winter season that extends beyond alpine skiing. With ongoing improvements to resort infrastructure, an integrated Nordic skiing network, and a range of outdoor activities, Slovenia offers a multifaceted winter experience for international and domestic travellers.

Across the country, mountain resorts have upgraded facilities and services, including modern lift systems, equipment rental, ski and snowboard schools, and guided activities. These developments support a broad mix of winter pursuits, from alpine skiing, snowboarding, and ski touring in mountain regions to lower-intensity activities such as snow parks, ice skating, snowshoeing, torchlight walks, and dog sledging.

Unified Cross-Country Ski Network

Cross-country skiing remains an integral part of Slovenia’s winter landscape. Destinations such as Pokljuka, Bohinj, Planica, and Jezersko offer prepared trails for both recreational and experienced skiers. The Unified Cross-Country Ski Pass connects several Nordic centres under a single ticket, making it easier for visitors to explore multiple locations while encouraging longer stays and regional travel.

Wellness, Food and Seasonal City Experiences

Winter travel in Slovenia also combines outdoor activity with wellness and cultural experiences. Visitors can relax at thermal spa centres, sample regional cuisine, and explore Christmas markets in historic towns. Snow-covered valleys and compact urban centres allow travellers to move easily between nature-based and city experiences during the winter months.

International Promotion of the Winter Season

To raise awareness of its winter offerings, the Slovenian Tourist Board is running an international promotional campaign across 20 markets from November through February. The campaign includes digital content, media collaborations, trade engagement, and press visits. Information and suggested itineraries are available on the official tourism website, slovenia.info, supporting trip planning and destination discovery.

With its compact geography, established winter infrastructure, and emphasis on sustainable tourism, Slovenia offers a winter season that combines outdoor activity, cultural experiences, and accessibility within short travel distances.
