Emirates A380 Returns with Starlink Wi-Fi Installed

Emirates Introduces Starlink Wi-Fi on A380 Fleet

Emirates has completed the installation of next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi on its Airbus A380, marking a new phase in onboard connectivity for the airline’s long-haul fleet.

The A380 was among the earlier commercial aircraft to offer in-flight internet, though earlier systems operated with limited bandwidth. With the addition of three Starlink antennas per aircraft, connectivity capacity is expected to increase significantly, allowing passengers to stream, browse, work and use connected devices during flights.

The first A380 fitted with Starlink has returned to Dubai following installation and certification in Newquay, UK. Emirates plans to continue installations across more A380 aircraft through 2026. The service will be available to all passengers across cabin classes, with access designed to be straightforward and free of charge. Future plans include live television streaming via personal devices, with potential integration into seatback screens at a later stage.

As the largest passenger aircraft in operation, the A380 requires specific technical adaptations. The Starlink system has been configured to support the aircraft’s two-deck layout and passenger capacity, with total cabin bandwidth exceeding 2 Gbps. Additional wireless access points and a third antenna have been installed to maintain consistent connectivity throughout both decks.

The rollout will expand further at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai. The airline has already equipped 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with Starlink, with the A380 now joining the programme. More than 650,000 passengers have travelled on Starlink-enabled flights so far.

The introduction of upgraded connectivity forms part of Emirates’ broader investment in its fleet and passenger experience. The airline has been carrying out a retrofit programme across its aircraft, including the addition of Premium Economy cabins, updates to Business and First Class, refreshed interiors and expanded inflight entertainment systems.

Alongside aircraft upgrades, Emirates has also invested in training. In 2025, the airline opened a Centre of Hospitality Excellence in Dubai to enhance service delivery for its cabin crew.
