Dubai Airports Installs 520 Hearing Loops Across DXB to Enhance Accessibility

Dubai Airports completes installation of 520 Hearing Loops across DXB

Dubai Airports has installed over 520 hearing loops at Dubai International Airport (DXB), significantly enhancing accessibility for travellers with hearing loss, including those using hearing aids or cochlear implants.

The loops are installed at important locations, such as check-in counters, immigration desks, boarding gates, and information desks in all three terminals. This system enables users to connect automatically by simply activating the ‘T’ (telecoil) setting on their devices—no pairing or additional equipment is needed.

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, said: “At Dubai Airports, we are committed to ensuring that every guest, regardless of ability, can navigate our terminals with ease, dignity, and confidence. The successful installation of over 520 Hearing Loops across DXB is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our oneDXB airport community, including all our strategic partners and airlines, whose unified effort is making our shared vision of a more seamless and accessible travel experience a reality for all.”

The rollout was carried out in collaboration with partners from the oneDXB community, including Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, dnata, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Taxi Company, and Dubai Duty Free.

In accordance with Dubai’s Universal Design Code, which requires inclusive access to public spaces and transportation infrastructure, the installation was carried out with minimal disruption to airport operations. Frontline staff also received training to assist guests with disabilities.

Dubai Airport is expected to surpass 2019 numbers, ETInfra

With over 1.5 billion people worldwide experiencing some form of hearing loss—a figure expected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050 according to the World Health Organization—accessible communication systems are increasingly vital in transportation hubs.

The Hearing Loops initiative is part of Dubai Airports’ accessibility strategy, which focuses on practical, guest-centred solutions and employee training to support various needs, ensuring every guest feels welcome and understood throughout their airport journey.
