American Airlines Terminal 8 Experience at JFK
JFK Terminal 8 and the New Customer Experience
American Airlines has opened its newly redeveloped customer experience at Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), marking a further step in its investment in airport infrastructure and passenger services.
The updated Terminal 8 has been designed to improve the overall journey from arrival to boarding, with changes focused on layout, facilities and passenger flow. The development reflects the airline’s ongoing efforts to refine how travellers move through its primary international hub in New York.
Dining, retail and passenger facilities
The redevelopment introduces more than 60 dining, retail and duty-free outlets, including a mix of local New York brands and international names. Around 20 local concepts have been incorporated, bringing elements of the city’s food and retail culture into the terminal environment.
At the centre of the space is The Borough’s Food Hall, which brings together a range of dining options from established names and newer concepts. The terminal also features outlets such as Eataly and Peach Palace by Momofuku, alongside additional retail and lounge areas.
Other additions include upgraded seating at gates, revised baggage systems, premium check-in areas and expanded lounge facilities. These changes are intended to support both international and domestic travellers passing through the terminal.
Role of Terminal 8 in American Airlines’ network

Terminal 8 serves as the airline’s main international gateway at JFK, connecting New York with destinations across the United States and around the world. American Airlines Group operates more than 240 daily flights from the city to over 95 destinations, handling millions of passengers each year.
The redevelopment also allows partner airlines within the oneworld alliance to operate from the same terminal, supporting smoother connections for passengers travelling across different carriers.
Continued focus on passenger experience
The opening of the updated Terminal 8 reflects a broader focus on improving passenger experience through infrastructure, design and service changes. By integrating dining, retail, and operational upgrades into a single space, the airline aims to provide a more consistent travel experience across its network.
