Zhaoge Hosts 2026 Spring Festival Fair
Spring Festival Fair Celebrates Zhaoge’s Cultural Heritage
The 2026 “Encounter Qi, Dreamy Zhaoge” Spring Festival Fair has officially opened on Zhaoge Old Street in Qi County, Henan Province, welcoming residents and visitors to a month-long celebration of history, culture, and traditional festivities.
The opening ceremony featured drum performances, lion dances and cultural presentations, setting the stage for an event that highlights Zhaoge’s 3,000-year heritage. The historic city, located in present-day Qi County, served as the capital of the last four kings of the Shang Dynasty and, later, of the Wei State during the Western Zhou period. Today, it is recognized as one of Henan Province’s historic and cultural cities and is associated with Chinese surname culture.
One of the festival’s main attractions is “Zhaoge: The Enchanted Dance of the Fengshen”, an immersive processional performance inspired by historical events and Chinese mythology. The production recreates scenes from the Shang Dynasty while introducing visitors to stories connected with the region’s cultural heritage.
Throughout Zhaoge Old Street, visitors can enjoy live performances, character parades, themed markets and local food stalls. Decorative lanterns, murals inspired by Investiture of the Gods (Fengshen Yanyi) and cultural souvenirs provide further insight into the area’s history and traditions.
Recognised as one of Henan’s historic and cultural districts, Zhaoge Old Street has become an important destination for cultural tourism and evening experiences. By combining historic architecture with cultural activities and local businesses, the district continues to attract visitors interested in exploring the region’s heritage.
The Spring Festival Fair offers visitors an opportunity to experience traditional celebrations while discovering the history and cultural identity of Zhaoge.
