AirAsia X has announced the re-appointment of Tan Sri (Dr.) Jamaludin bin Ibrahim as its Independent Non-Executive Chairman, effective immediately. This appointment coincides with the recent consolidation of all AirAsia-branded airlines into a single, integrated aviation group.

Tan Sri Jamaludin brings over four decades of leadership experience from various major Malaysian companies. His background includes developing large and complex organizations at a regional level, spearheading business transformations, and upholding governance standards.

He previously served as Group Chief Executive Officer of Axiata Group Berhad from 2008 to 2020 and as CEO of Maxis Communications Berhad between 1998 and 2007. Earlier in his career, he was Managing Director of Digital Equipment Corporation Malaysia and held multiple positions at IBM Malaysia.

The airline anticipates that this reinforced structure will enable it to pursue its long-term strategy, enhance coordination across business units, and drive greater efficiency, thereby strengthening its competitive position and resilience in the aviation industry.

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia X, stated that Tan Sri Jamaludin’s extensive leadership experience, strategic insight, and governance expertise are expected to be instrumental in guiding the Board. He noted that the focus would be on enhancing efficiency, deepening integration among entities, and expanding market presence. Lingam also acknowledged Dato’ Fam Lee Ee for her leadership as the previous Chairman during a transitional period, confirming she will continue as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board.

Tan Sri Jamaludin expressed his view that the consolidation of AirAsia airlines under one group would strengthen the organization, create new growth opportunities, and improve cost efficiency. He aims to contribute to the group’s objective of establishing strong governance.
