The Maharashtra Legislative Council has passed a resolution to change the names of seven Mumbai Local Train Network stations. The Eknath Shinde-led government will present these new names to the Union Government.

It was argued that the names of most of the stations on the Mumbai Local network, in English, have a colonial history. Thus, changing them will usher in a new chapter of embracing the country’s independent future. Chandrakant Patil, state parliamentary affairs minister, moved the resolution, which was adopted unanimously.

Currey Road Station has been renamed Lalbaug Station
Sandhurst Road Station has been renamed Dongri Station
Marine Lines Station has been renamed Mumbadevi Station
Charni Road Station has been renamed Girgaon Station
Cotton Green Station has been renamed Kalachowki Station
Dockyard Road Station has been renamed Mazgaon Station
King’s Circle Station has been renamed Tirthankar Parswanath Station
