Our Visionary Founder – Sagar Ahluwalia

Sagar Ahluwalia, the founder of Safari India, doyen of the global travel industry and widely recognised as the father of the Indian travel sector. His passion, foresight, and relentless commitment to promoting Indian tourism globally laid the foundation for our platform.

He began working while still a student, eventually dedicating his life to the travel and tourism sector. Over the years, he held influential positions including:

Founding PATWA – A Global Impact

In 1999, during one of his visits to ITB Berlin, he established the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) – a global tourism journalists’ forum. PATWA became a recognized name at ITB, not only for its thought leadership in tourism but also for organizing international award ceremonies that honored individuals and organizations shaping the global travel industry.

Continuing the Vision Digitally

Sagar Ahluwalia passed away in September 2022, but his dream of positioning India as a global tourism hub lives on. Today, Safari India embraces a digital-first approach to carry his legacy forward – connecting stories, people, and experiences that define the future of Indian tourism.
