IndiGo Reports Over 1,000 Women Pilots in Its Workforce

IndiGo has announced that it now employs over 1,000 women pilots, making it the first airline in India to reach this milestone. Women currently constitute about 17.5% of the airline’s total pilot workforce, a proportion that exceeds the global industry average. This development reflects the airline’s ongoing efforts to promote greater participation of women in aviation.

Across the organization, women make up over 45% of IndiGo’s total workforce. Their presence spans various operational and corporate roles. Women constitute more than 30% of airport operations staff and nearly 25% of employees in the airline’s Operations Control Centre. Additionally, women hold over 20% of the finance team, more than 15% of digital roles, and over 23% of leadership positions within the company.

Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at IndiGo, said the milestone reflects the airline’s continued focus on expanding opportunities for women in aviation. He noted that the presence of more than 1,000 women pilots highlights the growing participation of women in technical and leadership roles across the organization.

To mark International Women’s Day, IndiGo also released a short film on its social media platforms highlighting the experiences of women employees across the airline. The film features women from different teams and roles, showcasing moments from their professional journeys.

The airline continues to implement diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives under its EMBRACE framework, which focuses on Equity, Multiculturalism, Belonging, Respect, Accessibility, Community and Empowerment. Through this programme, IndiGo supports gender equality, encourages participation from Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), and works toward creating an inclusive workplace environment.

Several initiatives are designed to support career development and workplace flexibility. The Take-Off 2.0 programme assists women returning to work after a career break, while the 6E Girl Power Community provides a peer network for women employees across departments. These programmes are supported by hiring policies, learning initiatives and employee engagement activities aimed at building a balanced and inclusive workforce.

With women contributing across operational, technical and leadership roles, IndiGo continues to expand opportunities for women within the aviation sector in India.
