IndiGo Begins Construction of Large-Scale MRO Facility at Bengaluru Airport
IndiGo has officially started the construction of its upcoming Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, marked by a traditional Bhoomi Poojan (groundbreaking ceremony). The event was attended by government officials and senior executives from IndiGo and Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), including Gunjan Krishna IAS, Pieter Elbers, Hari Marar, Isidre Porqueras, Satyaki Raghunath, and Parichay Datta.
Set to be operational by early 2028, the MRO facility will be developed on 31 acres of land allocated by BIAL. It will be significantly larger than IndiGo’s existing MROs in Delhi and Bengaluru, with the capacity to house up to 12 aircraft bays and service both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.

This expansion supports IndiGo’s broader ambition to establish a robust aviation ecosystem in India and increase its global presence by 2030. The project, which commenced construction just two months after the signing of the MoU in May 2025, reflects the airline’s focus on long-term infrastructure development.
The new facility is also expected to create over a thousand jobs for engineers, technicians, and support staff, contributing to regional employment and skill development.
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, stated, “We are pleased to begin work on this MRO project in Bengaluru. It enhances our operational footprint in one of our busiest hubs and supports the broader goal of developing a comprehensive aviation infrastructure in India.”

With a fleet of over 400 aircraft, IndiGo’s dedicated MRO investments are aimed at improving aircraft availability, enhancing cost efficiency, and reducing turnaround times. This facility also supports the growth of Karnataka’s aerospace and defence sectors, aligning with regional development objectives.
