Hotel Indigo is releasing a limited-edition candle collection

Hotel Indigo, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts' portfolio, is releasing a limited-edition candle collection inspired by the neighbourhoods its hotels call home across Australia and New Zealand. Scents of the Neighbourhood includes five candles individually crafted to represent Hotel Indigo neighbourhoods in Sydney (Potts Point), Melbourne (Flinders Lane), Brisbane (City Centre), Adelaide (Central Markets) and Auckland (City Centre).

Limited-Edition Candle Collection

Smell is known to bring back memories better than any other sense – a mode of instant transportation to a specific place or moment in time. Hotel Indigo is harnessing this powerful sense to allow travellers and locals alike to relive moments with aromas that capture the essence of the neighbourhoods they’ve explored. Just as no two neighbourhoods are alike, no two Hotel Indigo properties are alike. Working with Australian artisan sent studio, Hotel Indigo has crafted five custom scents, each of which is complete with notes reminiscent of the local area. The unique, limited-edition scents include:

  • Hotel Indigo Sydney Potts Point: Potts Point is a part of Sydney that combines history, culture, and modernity. A scent as eclectic as the neighbourhood that inspired it, notes of whiskey, rosewood, white musk and oak combine the area’s past and present, from its nightlife and architecture to its cafes and vibe.
  • Hotel Indigo Melbourne on Flinders: One of Melbourne’s central areas known for its historical, cultural, and artistic significance, Flinders Lane is one of the city’s most famous laneways as a hotspot for coffee culture covered with vibrant street art. Inspired by the area’s cafe-lined streets, this blend of aromas of fresh coffee, vanilla buttercream, and tonka bean conjures memories of rain-soaked urban laneways filled with painted murals and street art.

  • Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets: Adelaide celebrates its diversity, heritage and flavours throughout the year with a calendar of vibrant events and festivals, while its Central Market offers a unique slice of the city’s local culture and multicultural community year-round. A blend as diverse and robust as the offerings of the markets themselves, this scent combines woody white oak, sweet chocolate and vanilla, and notes of robust malbec as a nod to the world-renowned wine regions nearby.
  • Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre: Brisbane City Centre is a bustling district with a world of hidden finds behind the heritage-listed buildings, art galleries and chrome skyscrapers, set against the scenic backdrop of the Brisbane River. A distinct combination of nature woven into urban life, this scent blends eucalyptus with notes of ginger, mint, and cucumber, bringing memories of urban greenspaces explored in daylight together with cocktail ingredients inspired by the city’s nightlife.
  • Hotel Indigo Auckland: Auckland is a dynamic, cosmopolitan city that offers a unique blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty, often referred to as the "City of Sails" due to its strong maritime culture and numerous harbours. A fragrance inspired by the duality of urban land and salty sea, notes of sea salt, ocean, rum, cane sugar, and spearmint transport travellers to Auckland’s mix of city life with its inspiring natural surroundings.

Hotels across Australia and New Zealand are chosen for the campaign

Guests who book and stay at a Hotel Indigo property across Australia between now and November 30, 2024 will be gifted one of the limited-edition candle sets upon check-in on a first-come first-served basis while stocks last. The scents were inspired by the stories of each destination, with input from Hotel Indigo guests who were asked to describe the smells that are reminiscent of their time spent in these neighbourhoods. Memories of Melbourne’s Flinders Lane were overwhelmingly inspired by the aroma of freshly ground coffee in an urban laneway, while Brisbane’s city centre evoked the scent of fresh eucalyptus reminiscent of the city’s leafy parks and bushland that seamlessly blend nature with city life.

“Travellers want to experience the true essence of the places they visit, and Hotel Indigo brings that to life with tailored design, local dining and guest experiences inspired by rich research into each neighbourhood,” said Dean Jones, vice president Commercial, East Asia & Pacific (EAPAC), IHG Hotels & Resorts. “With Hotel Indigo’s ‘Scents of the Neighbourhood,’ guests and locals have an opportunity to take a piece of the neighbourhood home with them after their travels – one that will allow them to relive their favourite memories from home or wherever they venture next.”

Scents of the Neighbourhood is an extension of The World’s Neighbourhood Hotel campaign launched by Hotel Indigo last year, rooted in the brand’s belief that when you see the world through the neighbourhood, the neighbourhood changes your world. Each Hotel Indigo is as unique as the neighbourhood it calls home, designed with curated details and colourful experiences that illuminate the beauty in each of its neighbourhoods. The Scents of the Neighbourhood candle collection takes Hotel Indigo’s deeply rooted connection to each neighbourhood a step further, creating a long-lasting keepsake that encourages travellers and locals alike to open up their senses to new experiences. Hotel Indigo has four hotels in Australia, including Hotel Indigo Melbourne on Flinders, Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, and Hotel Indigo Sydney Potts Point. The brand is set to debut in New Zealand with the opening of the new Hotel Indigo Auckland in late 2024.
