Etihad, Ethiopian Airlines Join Forces

Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have activated their codeshare agreement, which strengthens connectivity between Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. This partnership enhances global travel opportunities for passengers, with seats available for booking now. Ethiopian Airlines will begin services from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) on July 15, while Etihad Airways will introduce daily flights to Addis Ababa starting on October 8.

This marks the initial step toward implementing the groundbreaking joint venture agreed upon by Etihad and Ethiopian Airlines in March 2025. This partnership will unlock greater travel opportunities for passengers across both networks. The codeshare agreement allows guests to simplify their journeys by making a single booking, which includes one check-in process at the beginning. Additionally, passengers will enjoy the convenience of having their baggage transferred directly to their final destination.

Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer said: “By leveraging our combined networks, we are unlocking seamless travel opportunities between Africa and Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. Easy connections via Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa, will enhance flexibility, boosting trade and tourism, and delivering unparalleled travel experiences to guests of both airlines.”
Through this partnership, Etihad passengers will be able to access Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network throughout Africa. They can connect via Addis Ababa to 55 destinations across 33 countries, including Entebbe, Kinshasa, Kigali, Lusaka, Harare, and Victoria Falls, thereby expanding their travel options across the continent.
Ethiopian Airlines passengers can now book itineraries that connect to Etihad-operated flights through Abu Dhabi, allowing for onward travel to 20 key destinations in Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. These destinations include Sydney, Krabi, Colombo, and Phnom Penh. In response to the growing demand for air travel in Africa, Etihad is significantly expanding its network in 2025. This expansion will introduce new destinations and increased flight frequencies to strengthen the connections across the continent.
