DGCA Launches Inquiry
On Monday night, there was a rare incident in which metal pieces supposedly fell from an aircraft flying over Shankar Vihar. A resident called the Delhi Police to report the "falling of aircraft pieces" from a plane that had passed above around 9:30 PM. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a thorough probe into this incident. It is being investigated whether the metal pieces had fallen from an Air India Express aircraft that departed from IGIA at 8:49 pm for Bahrain. The Boeing 737 developed an engine snag soon after take-off and returned to Delhi half an hour later, at 9:19 pm.
An AI Express spokesperson stated that flight IX 145, on September 2, experienced an engine issue after taking off from Delhi. The situation was handled according to standard procedures, and the aircraft made a precautionary landing at Delhi. The incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities and is currently under investigation. The airline has been made aware of reports of metal pieces found at Shankar Vihar, but at this time, it cannot be confirmed whether these pieces are from their aircraft. The investigation is ongoing to establish the facts.
A senior DGCA official said, "We have ordered a probe into the incident."
