American Airlines Begins 100-Year Anniversary Celebrations
In 1926, a single mail flight from Chicago to St. Louis marked the beginning of what would become American Airlines. A century later, the airline is marking 100 years of operations, with customers beginning to see centennial-themed elements across their travel experience starting today.
“American is proud to mark 100 years of flight,” said Robert Isom, Chief Executive Officer, American Airlines.
“Our history reflects a long-standing focus on innovation and adaptability, and we look ahead to continuing this journey with our customers and team members.”
Centennial elements across the customer journey

As part of the celebrations, American will introduce a special centennial livery on a Boeing 737 later this month. The aircraft reflects the airline’s past while highlighting its future direction.
The design features silver infinity rings near the rear of the aircraft, known as the centennial pattern, symbolising continuity and long-term commitment.
Customers will also see the centennial logo across various touchpoints, including the booking process, airports and in-flight environments. The logo combines American’s branding with an infinity symbol, representing the airline’s long-standing relationship with customers.
In addition, American is placing a centennial decal on its fleet of more than 1,500 aircraft, making the milestone visible across daily operations.
Special experiences planned through 2026

Throughout 2026, American will introduce limited-time centennial offerings for customers, including themed amenity kits, pyjamas and in-flight dining items.
The airline has also launched a dedicated website, aa.com/american100, showcasing its history, employee stories and centennial merchandise. The site highlights key developments from the airline’s early years to more recent product and service milestones.
Limited-edition Citi / AAdvantage credit cards

To mark the anniversary, new and reissued Citi/AAdvantage credit cards will feature a commemorative centennial design for a limited time. Eligible cards include the Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard, Globe Mastercard and Executive World Elite Mastercard.
Whether displayed on aircraft, digital platforms or credit cards, the centennial logo reflects American Airlines’ ongoing focus on continuity and progress as it enters its second century of operations.
