Pune Airport's New Terminal Now Open
On Sunday, Pune airport's new terminal building finally began operations, with two airlines, Air India and Air India Express, conducting flights. Air India (AI) flight 858 from Pune to Delhi and Air India Express flight I5 320 from Pune to Bhubaneswar were the first flights to depart from the new terminal.
Pune MP and minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol handed over a boarding pass to the first passenger of the Air India flight from Pune to Delhi. While passengers are happy about the new terminal opening, they are eagerly waiting for all airlines to start operations from here.
The new terminal will accommodate around 90 lakhs to one crore passengers every year, easing the congestion experienced at the old terminal. In the coming period, 20 to 25 new airports are expected to be constructed across the country. According to Mohol, the air transport sector in India has made significant progress over the years and has secured the third position globally.
The new terminal at Lohegaon Airport has been constructed to accommodate the growing number of passengers travelling to and from Pune. The prime minister inaugurated the terminal on March 10, and it has now been opened to the public after all pending work has been completed.
Passengers are eagerly anticipating the commencement of operations by all airlines at the new terminal. The new terminal's expansion will alleviate the congestion issues faced at the old terminal, especially during peak travel times.
