IATA Launches SAF Matchmaker Platform to Connect Airlines and Fuel Suppliers
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Matchmaker platform to facilitate connections between airlines and fuel producers for SAF procurement. The platform matches SAF supply offers with airline requests, enabling the parties to connect and negotiate terms privately.
Key Features:
-
Efficiency: The platform simplifies the SAF buying process by offering a centralized, fee-free space for airlines and suppliers to connect, supporting the growth of the voluntary SAF market.
-
Connectivity: SAF producers can list available or upcoming fuel volumes, while airlines can register interest. Transactions are completed outside the platform.
-
Visibility: Detailed SAF data is available, including volume, feedstock, production location, emissions reductions, and compliance with CORSIA or the EU Renewable Energy Directive.
Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist, said the platform will help accelerate SAF use by making the market more accessible and reducing complexity for airlines.
Currently, the SAF Matchmaker is open to airlines and SAF suppliers for both spot deals and longer-term agreements. Other buyers, including non-aviation companies, may be included in the future.
The platform is hosted on the Aviation Energy Hub, IATA’s digital resource for aviation energy tools.
