Watch: Two Planes Nearly Collide in New York

In a heart-stopping video captured by the dashcam of North Syracuse Police, two planes belonging to PSA Airlines and Endeavor Air can be seen nearly avoiding a collision at New York's Syracuse Hancock International Airport on July 8.

The Clash

Due to the near-clash, the commercial flight was forced to abort its landing when the other plane, taking off, nearly ran into it. The planes involved in the incident were PSA Airlines Flight 5511 and Endeavor Air Flight 5421. PSA Airlines' flight was on its way from Washington and Endeavor one was heading to New York. Including both the planes, there were a total of 151 passengers and 8 crew members on the planes. According to reports, the planes were only 700 feet apart, which is not at all safe and could have led to a clash.

The video, which has since gone viral, has caused the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to launch an investigation. Some experts have claimed that though the video seems concerning, the planes were "not on a direct collision course." But since air traffic control audio showcases signs of concern, a probe into the matter will soon determine if the case was truly a disaster waiting to happen or not.

Talking of the incident, a spokesperson said, "An air traffic controller instructed PSA Airlines 5511 to go around at Syracuse Hancock International Airport to keep it separated from an aircraft that was departing on the same runway.”
