From Retention to Reforms: Ajay Prakash's Vision for Indian Travel

In an exclusive with Safari India, Ajay Prakash, president of TAFI, outlined key challenges and growth prospects in India's travel sector. During the conversation with Joyita Dutta, senior correspondent, Safari India, Prakash spotlighted TAFI's member retention strategies, including rebates and the onboarding of 163 new members. He stressed the need for government action on GST for hotels and the TCS on outbound tours, both critical issues for the industry.

TAFI's initiatives include a campaign promoting bookings with authorized agents and a suite of skilling courses launched in 2023. Prakash also noted TAFI's success in achieving a partial TCS rollback, reinforcing the federation's advocacy efforts. Prakash called for simplifying e-visa processes, improving public hygiene, and bolstering infrastructure to unlock the potential of domestic, religious, and cruise tourism. He underscored the need for stronger overseas marketing and better national connectivity.
