The UAE has announced a significant change in its immigration policy by introducing a new 10-year residency visa called the "Blue Residency." This visa will be granted to individuals who have made exceptional environmental and sustainability contributions. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, made the announcement during a UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan, Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced the designation of 2024 as the year of sustainability in the UAE. As a part of this initiative, the 'Blue Residency' will be introduced, granting a ten-year residency to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection, including marine life, land-based ecosystems, air quality, sustainability technologies, the circular economy, and related fields.
The "Blue Residency" is the first long-term residency for individuals with exceptional contributions and efforts in environmental action and sustainability inside and outside the United Arab Emirates.
The Blue Residency aims to support and enhance the UAE's sustainability efforts, which aligns with the UAE President's directive to extend the Year of Sustainability initiative from 2023 to 2024.
The Blue Residency visa demonstrates the UAE's commitment to inclusivity and global collaboration in environmental action. It will be granted to a diverse range of supporters, including members of international organizations, international companies, associations and non-governmental organizations, global award winners, and distinguished activists and researchers in environmental work. Emirati nationals and responsible residents who advocate for environmental protection are also eligible for this recognition.
Sustainability advocates and experts interested in the United Arab Emirates Blue Residency can submit their applications directly through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security services or through nominations by competent authorities in the state for the individuals recommended for it.
