To advance its services to aid pet travel, Akasa Air, on May 8, announced new additions to its existing pet travel service, Pets On Akasa.
The airline, which claims to have carried more than 3200 pets since November 2022, has now increased the weight limit of pets (which includes the weight of the container) to 10 kg from the previous 7 kg. In addition, the airline allows a 32 kg weight limit for animals that are checked-in at the airport and a 100 kg weight limit for pets that travel from the cargo terminal. To further the cause, the airline is also extending their travel certificate policy where the pet’s travel certificate, which was earlier only valid for 3 days, will now be acceptable for a total of 15 days, and the customers travelling for a longer period of time will be asked to renew the certificate if the given duration has been exceeded.
In a statement, Akasa Air mentioned that the decision stems from the various feedback given by the customers. To implement the same, the company partnered with Umeed For Animals to ensure the best animal-friendly practices. The organisation also highlighted its “commitment to continuously elevating its services to meet the evolving needs of travellers.” Akasa Air was one of the first airlines in India to offer pet travel services and still remains one of the few ones to offer such animal-friendly travel.
The airline also intends to make travel inclusive and comfortable for all with its Braille menu cards, spacious legroom, in-seat USD charging ports, pre-booked window seats, priority baggage delivery and various other facilities.
