Kerala Tourism's Multi-Crore Plan to Revamp Kovalam Beach

The Department of Kerala Tourism has approved urgent infrastructure and amenities upgrades at Kovalam Beach, a popular international tourist destination near the state capital. The estimated cost of the upgrades is INR 3,66,83,103.65. The Departmental Working Group on Plan Schemes approved the proposal on July 8.

The immediate upgrades are part of the comprehensive project 'Action Plan for Enhancing Tourism Infrastructure in Kovalam Tourism Destination.' A master plan is being executed to develop infrastructure facilities and tourist amenities at Kovalam as part of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) projects.

The project aims to extensively revamp Kovalam Beach, a major tourist attraction that has drawn tourists worldwide for decades. The immediate works include site preparation, landscaping, pavement laying, installation of street furniture, renovation of buildings, street lighting, and restroom renovation.

These approved works are deemed a high priority and must be undertaken before the completion of the KIIFB project. "The implementation of the project will enhance the potential of the destination, especially since there has been a significant increase in tourist visits to the state in the post-pandemic period," said P A Mohamed Riyas, Kerala Tourism Minister.
