We know that Chandigarh, the city known for its cleanliness and immaculate planning, is a favourite among Indians, but apparently, foreigners love it, too—maybe even more than us, data suggests.
Foreigners Prefer Chandigarh
According to a report by The Indian Express, Chandigarh is “one of the most preferred destinations for foreign tourists” in India. The union territory welcomed over 44,814 foreign tourists in the last 15 months and is planning to host even more for the rest of 2024.
The city, planned by architect Le Corbusier, has always been loved by foreigners as it is conceptualised based on cities abroad. Even in 2021, during the COVID-19 lockdown, the city had over 5,051 foreign visitors, climbing to over 28,439 in 2022. In 2023, the figure stood at 31,498. In the first three months of 2024, there were around 13,000 foreign visitors in Chandigarh; 3,449 came in January, 5,028 in February, and 4,839 tourists visited Chandigarh in March.
The city's most travelled months, as noted by the tourism department of Chandigarh, were November to March. The most loved tourist attractions were Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, the Le Corbusier Centre, the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre, Bird Park, Capitol Complex, and the Government Museum and Art Gallery.
