Fernandes has stated that the government plans on attracting around three million international tourists in the second half of 2024, and will be scaling up international promotions with big media names soon. “We will work with major international media organisations, such as the BBC and CNN, to promote Macau. The government will work with a variety of Macau companies to participate in the program. The number of visitors in July was higher than that of June, and with more events taking place in the second half of the year, the total number of visitors by the end of the year could be over 33 million,” she stated.
As per official figures, around 1.17 million international visitors arrived in Macau in the first six months of 2024, a 146.4% increase since the same time period in 2023. Macau’s tourism industry has recovered around 68% of its pre-pandemic tourism level, but still has a long way to go.
