SWISS Unveils First Airbus A350 with ‘Wanderlust’ Livery
SWISS has revealed its first Airbus A350-900 at Airbus’s facility in Toulouse, featuring a special ‘SWISS Wanderlust’ livery. This marks the public debut of the airline’s new long-haul aircraft, designed to celebrate Switzerland’s landscapes, culture, and heritage.
The unique exterior design is not painted but created using 360 custom precision-cut films, applied manually across the fuselage and engine nacelles. Covering a total of 380 square meters, the film-based artwork is a first for Airbus in terms of scale and technique. To meet safety and aerodynamic standards, Airbus developed a new application process using 3D projections for precise placement.
The livery includes a range of symbols that reflect Swiss identity – from iconic landmarks and cultural references to figures such as Helvetia, Wilhelm Tell, a marmot, and even a treasure chest. The design aims to showcase the country’s diversity and spirit.
Before entering service later this summer, the aircraft will undergo final testing at Airbus’s Toulouse site, including engine checks and pre-delivery flights.
Interactive Experience and Treasure Hunt
To engage the public, SWISS has launched an augmented reality experience at swiss.com/treasurehunt. Visitors can explore the aircraft’s detailed illustrations and take part in a digital treasure hunt that runs until October. Participants have a chance to win a flight for two in the A350’s new Business Class cabin.
