The Rajasthan government is likely to allot industrial plots for tourism units, allow farmhouses to operate as homestays and also recognize restaurants as manufacturing companies. These are amongst a dozen new initiatives which will make their way in the draft Rajasthan Tourism Unit Policy-2024.

The tourism department of the state has outlined these proposals in the minutes of the meeting held last week between the tourism department and stakeholders  of various segments of the industry.

The Rajasthan Tourism Policy was last revised in 2015 and the presnet draft has been in the works for over two years now.

Small Hotels To Benefit

In another provision which is likely to benefit existing motels and small guest house owners, the proposed tourism policy might given them recognition. “With regard to the recognition of budget hotels near railway stations, bus stands and other areas as tourism units, the department acknowledged the demand that the properties running before Covid pandemic may be accepted on the ‘as is where is’ basis, meaning exempting them the current building bylaws as they have been in existence for a long time,” an official said.
