The Uttar Pradesh government, adding another notch to its religious tourism chapter, has approved a proposal by Tata Sons for a ‘museum of temples’.
Museum Of Temples
The museum, said to be a ₹650 crore project, will be built by Tata Sons and funded by Tata’s corporate social responsibility fund, reported The Times of India. The museum will aim to highlight the “history and architecture of India’s renowned temples.” The project has been under deliberation since 2023, and in September of last year, UP’s CM and other officials also gave PM Modi a presentation on the same.
Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh, talking of the project, added, “Tata Sons had proposed the project through the Central Government, offering to build the museum at a cost of ₹650 crore under its corporate social responsibility fund. The tourism department will provide land for the museum on a 90-year lease for a token amount of ₹1.”
The project will aim to develop Ayodhya further, boost its tourism, improve its infrastructure, and put it on the map as the premiere religious tourism spot for Hindus.
The government has also announced that another ₹100 crore will be allotted for other development projects in the city. A helicopter service in Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Kapilvastu was also unveiled.
