Mercure Katowice Centrum's Eco-Design

The Mercure Katowice Centrum is situated in the heart of Katowice, Poland, which is currently undergoing its eco-transformation. The property has been designed to embody Accor's sustainable vision, representing the future of modern and responsible hospitality.

Accor prioritizes sustainability by ensuring that its design concepts have a positive impact on the environment and society. The Design & Technical Services teams have developed construction guidelines for sustainability and established criteria for partners to share the commitment. They also use an eco-design tool to assess environmental performance, focusing on circularity and carbon reduction.

When you arrive at Mercure Katowice Centrum, you can't miss the hotel's dedication to eco-design. Two plant-covered walls adorn the facade, with the largest covering 260 sqm and housing nearly 7,000 plants. This is the largest green wall of its kind in the city. Not only does the facade provide a beautiful welcome to arriving guests, but it also positively impacts the microclimate by lowering the ambient temperature on hot days, producing oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide, and trapping air pollutants. Additionally, the lobby features a mural designed by a local artist for the COP24, further showcasing the hotel's commitment to ecology.

The property follows its design's "Green & Clean" principle, which extends to its operational systems. It has integrated sustainable solutions across the board to minimize environmental impact. These solutions include photovoltaic systems, in-building energy distribution, recycled materials, state-of-the-art rainwater collection and heat recovery mechanisms, and electric vehicle charging stations. The hotel's 268 rooms are designed to envelop guests in a calm and harmonious environment using natural colours and materials, which aligns with the hotel’s overarching concept. Since its opening in 2021, the hotel has received recognition for its sustainability efforts, including the Green Building Award from the Polish Green Building Association, LEED platinum certification, and the top prize at the MP Power Awards.
