IHG Hotels & Resorts proudly announces the addition of Hotel Spero to the Vignette Collection, a unique group of hotels in prime destinations. Located just moments from San Francisco’s renowned Union Square and the Theater District, this new addition to IHG’s expanding luxury and lifestyle portfolio is owned by an affiliate of Fairwood Capital and managed by Aperture Hotels, marking the brand’s inaugural hotel on the West Coast.

Hotel Spero, built in 1924, boasts 236 guest rooms and 23 suites, providing an environment that embodies the Vignette Collection’s dedication to unique experiences. The hotel showcases its distinctiveness through Spanish Colonial Revival-inspired design elements, including a lobby with hand-painted ceiling beams and travertine flooring. Leanne Harwood, SVP and Managing Director of Luxury & Lifestyle Americas, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We’re excited to welcome Hotel Spero to Vignette Collection. Since the brand’s launch in 2021, it has seen tremendous global growth, and we’re excited to continue that momentum across the Americas. Hotel Spero is the first Vignette Collection hotel in California, and we’re eager to provide a one-of-a-kind experience to those traveling to the Golden State. We look forward to welcoming guests seeking discovery and purpose to this latest gem in one of the country’s most inspiring destinations.”

Vignette Collection combines each property’s identity with the brand’s collective vision to offer a more authentic travel experience. Each property is unique, yet united through its key hallmarks – Memorable Rituals and ‘A Means For Good’:

Memorable Rituals – bespoke to each property – connect guests with the hotel’s distinct identity, locality and cultural landscape. Spero means “I hope” in Latin, and at Hotel Spero, guests can write a message of hope to their future self on one of the complimentary postcards. Following their stay, the property will mail the postcard to the guest’s preferred address on their requested date. Guests text themselves, address the already-stamped postcard and wait for their message to arrive.

A Means For Good initiative is woven throughout all Vignette Collection properties to represent each hotel’s commitment to positively improving people, places and the planet. Hotel Spero’s initiatives are inspired by the historic property’s past owner, philanthropist Elizabeth Glide, who transformed the property into the city’s only temperance hotel, creating a refuge for women in 1935. Her enduring GLIDE Foundation, a beacon of social justice, continues to offer vital services and empower those in need. Hotel Spero participates in GLIDE’s Daily Free Meals Program, where hotel colleagues volunteer their time to prepare and serve meals for those in need. The hotel also prioritizes working towards a sustainable future, replacing single-use toiletries with refillable ones and using energy-efficient LED lightbulbs and low-flow water fixtures. Beyond that, Hotel Spero donates gently used clothing items through their “Giving Rack” program. Guests may leave items on the luggage rack, and the property will donate them to St. Anthony’s Foundation, a local non-profit organization committed to helping San Franciscans in need.

Hotel Spero’s signature restaurant, Jasper’s Corner Tap & Kitchen, is a gathering place for guests and locals. It offers a diverse menu that features elevated gastropub classics and inventive breakfast options, all using organic ingredients and fusion-inspired flavours. The restaurant also caters to vegetarian guests and features a rotating selection of Bay Area beers on tap. As Jasper’s prepares to reimagine its culinary and beverage offerings, exciting changes are on the horizon.

Hotel Spero has 3,000 square feet of event space in five rooms. Each room blends San Francisco's charm with modern amenities and is suitable for group stays or private retreats. The hotel also features a co-working space for creativity, pet-friendly services, local recommendations, and a 24-hour fitness centre.
