Banyan Group, a renowned global hospitality leader, has announced the opening of its inaugural property in Japan, the Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto, set to open in the third quarter of 2024. Located in Kyoto City's historic Higashiyama Ward, this new establishment will feature 52 rooms, a signature Banyan Tree Spa, and two distinctive dining venues.

Historical Significance and Location

The Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto is located on the historic grounds of the former Hotel Ryozen in the renowned Higashiyama district. It is situated close to significant sites such as the Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji Temples. The property features the exclusive Higashiyama Onsen, a cherished natural hot spring, highlighting Banyan Tree Group's commitment to cultural preservation and sustainable practices.

Exclusive Noh Theatre Experience

The hotel in Kyoto features a unique Noh theatre stage designed by the acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma. Located in the spiritual Ryozen area of Higashiyama, this stage is an architectural marvel that harmonizes the physical and spiritual realms. It showcases performances ranging from traditional Nohgaku—recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage—to modern artistic expressions.

A Sanctuary of Subtle Elegance

The hotel's design, created by Yukio Hashimoto, embodies the "yūgen" concept, which reflects profound and subtle beauty. The design is inspired by traditional Noh philosophy, especially the "Hisureba Hana" concept, meaning "hidden beauty revealed." This theme is integrated throughout the guestrooms, which include tatami mats, cypress wood bathtubs, natural wood, and gold leaf details, all designed to engage and soothe all the senses.

Dedication to Eco-Conscious Luxury

Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto embraces its environmental values by integrating natural landscapes into its design, including three unique gardens and a bamboo grove. The property prioritizes eco-friendly practices, such as restoring historic stone walls and incorporating native flora, to underscore its dedication to ecological responsibility.

Culinary Delights and Spa Innovations

The property offers an exceptional dining experience with dishes celebrating Kyoto's rich culinary traditions. The acclaimed Banyan Tree Spa will introduce bespoke treatments crafted specifically for this location, offering guests unique methods to relax and rejuvenate. A special introductory offer will be available for stays beginning July 26, 2024.
