Etihad Airways has announced important updates about the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility in Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport.

Eligibility

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility is now available for all Etihad Airways flights travelling from Abu Dhabi to the U.S.

How to Clear U.S. Immigration

To preclear U.S. customs and immigration in Abu Dhabi, guests must:

  • Check in for their flight at Terminal A at least four hours before their flight.
  • Make their way to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility two hours before their flight, or 90 minutes if they’re travelling in Business, First or The Residence.
  • The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility closes an hour before the flight departure time.

The U.S. Preclearance Lounge

The exclusive Etihad U.S. Preclearance Lounge is currently closed for refurbishment. Guests travelling in Business, First or The Residence, or guests eligible to use the lounge with their Etihad Guest membership, are invited to use our state-of-the-art First or Business lounge instead. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility is about a 15-minute walk away.

Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways is a major player in the aviation industry, operating more than 1,000 flights per week to over 120 passenger and cargo destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. As of January 2024, the airline boasts a fleet of 85 Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Its primary hub is located at Zayed International Airport. In addition to its core business of passenger transportation, Etihad Airways also runs Etihad Holidays and Etihad Cargo, further diversifying its operations. Notably, the airline established the Etihad Airways Partners alliance in October 2015, aiming to strengthen global connectivity and collaboration among member airlines. However, the alliance ceased operations in 2018 due to financial challenges faced by several member airlines. Etihad had maintained minority investments in these airlines and previously held a stake in Virgin Australia until the latter's insolvency in April 2020, resulting in no return on investment for Etihad.
